Master Lewis began training in 1968 in Washington DC at Joon Rees' TKD school while in the Marines. He continued training in Viet Nam with the ROC Marines from Korea when he wasn't in the field on a mission. After returning to the US, he was discharged, and then enlisted in the army, where he attended paratrooper and ranger school. During his assignment at JFK Center with the 6th and then 5th Special Forces, he continued his training under SF Master Sergeant Owen McDonald, who was in charge of the Ft Bragg TKD team. Upon leaving the army, Master Lewis moved to Scappoose and started his first school.
Master Lewis continues to compete and teach and move up the ranks of World Tae Kwon Do Federation Olympic style TKD. He is a 6th Dan WTF certified Senior Master. He was the Oregon USTU Senior coach for five years. He is a level 2 USTU National certified coach, an A-1 USTU level Referee, and the only USTU certified Senior Master Instructor in the state. Of the numerous awards and trophies he has won, he has kept only those school awards bearing his name.
He has had quite a few National and International Champions, of which Master Maye is one. There is also Mike Rethati, Mike Mather, Sara Lewis, Bill Perkins, Kay Heino, Ashley Jobin, the Harris family, Mark, Melani and Tahaira who all won medals at the USTU Nationals in Colorado Springs a few years back.
Master Lewis operates Do Jangs in Scappoose and Portland.
